About

I’ve been drawing my whole life, though my interest in painting really began when I was learning about Greco-Roman mythology in middle school. School-time readings of the Odyssey and the Aeneid were always accompanied by illustrations, and I loved seeing the different ways that the verses were expressed visually. My favorite image was John William Waterhouse’s painting Circe Invidiosa (1892), which led me to discover not only the rest of Waterhouse’s oeuvre but also the broader painting tradition of nineteenth-century Europe. At 18, I moved to Florence, Italy, to study drawing and painting at the Angel Academy of Art, an atelier focused on traditional painting. After living there for four years, I moved to France to continue my studies at the American University of Paris and earned a BA in Comparative Literature with a minor in Fine Arts three years later.

The seven years I spent in Europe exposed me to a wide breadth of Italian and French visual culture, which continues to inform my work. I am particularly interested in the processes and aesthetics of the French Academy and École des Beaux-Arts of the nineteenth century, as well as painting animals and any subject from nature. As I develop my practice, I hope to make narrative paintings inspired by my favorite stories, including Arthurian romances, ancient epics, and Shakespeare.

Currently my paintings and drawings are in private collections in the US, the UK, Australia, Denmark, France, and Italy. If you’re interested in any of my work or commissioning a piece, please do not hesitate to contact me.
